The best way to secure a cantilever umbrella to the ground is to place four water/sand-fillable weights or concrete pavers onto the cross base to weight down the umbrella. With market umbrellas, ensure that the umbrella is secured tightly to a granite or water/sand-fillable base. Note that all outdoor umbrellas should always be taken down in windy conditions, to avoid damage.

To an extent, the umbrella canopies are able to provide some relief from the rain. They are however not designed for use in heavy inclement weather. If winds become excessive, or rain threatens to weigh down your outdoor umbrella, take it down and protect it with a protective cover or store it in a safe place out of the elements.
